Crafty Crew (Volunteer)

Crafty Crew sessions are an opportunity for volunteers to help Brenda create Card and Craft kits for the free workshops that she provides at the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (DSORC) and at the Ottawa Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). Crafty Crew sessions are held at DSORC as well as at Brenda’s home.

Crafty Crew sessions are held at the office of the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County  two afternoons each month from 1:00-3:30 p.m., typically one Monday and one Wednesday. Please contact Brenda or the DSORC Volunteer Coordinator if you would like to participate in Crafty Crew sessions at DSORC.

Build-A-Box (Volunteer)

Come out to learn how to make different types and sizes of boxes which will be used to package items that will be going into Shoeboxes in December. Volunteers can also help to create and fill treat boxes which are donated to Debra Dynes Family House on occasions such as Mother’s Day, Fathers Day and Christmas. Please contact Brenda for more information.

The idea behind the Build-a-Box for The Shoebox Project is that to make opening the Shoeboxes more fun for the recipients, we’ll package 12 items in mini boxes within each Shoebox (think the 12 Days of Christmas crossed with Advent calendar’s daily surprises). Rather than waiting until December to collect items for and package items in Shoeboxes, we’ll have an opportunity each month to get together to work on creating and filling these boxes. More details and photos will be shared in the coming months.

There will be two Build-A-Box workshops each month, once during the day on a weekday and one weekday evening. These Build-a-Box sessions will all be held at Brenda’s house near Hunt Club and Riverside Drive in Ottawa. Please contact Brenda if you’d like to participate in Build-a-Box sessions at her house.

Fundraising with Creative Treats

Creative Treats, a new social enterprise founded by Brenda Wilson, contributed a variety of baked goods for a recent fundraising House Concert. These donations for these delicious home bake items raised $82 which is helping children globally and locally; with funds going towards both Child Play International and First Nations Caring Society of Canada. Recipes will be posted soon for the treats which included Chocolate Chip Cookies, Salted Caramel Chocolate Cookies, Turtle Bars, Maple Almonds, Chocolate Macaroons and Ginger Krinkle Cookies. Boxes featured Stampin’ Up paper. The logo for Creative Treats was created by Olivia Arden.
